NMR User Tuition

The tuition has 4 parts:

1.  A hands on period of instruction where the applicant learns to book time on the (400 MHz) instrument, insert the sample, shim the magnet, perform at least 1H tuning and possily multinuclear tuning and matching, setup and run an experiment and process the resulting data.  These periods are supported by two sets of notes.

2.  A practical test based on the tuition given in 1. above, is administered.

3.  A Power Point presentation covering the theory and practice of sample preparation, instrument etiquet, instrument adjustment (shimming, tuning and matching, experiment set up, optimization and execution, data communications and processing.

4  A written multiple choice quiz based on the Power Point presentation.

In addition 10 Rules (the 10 Commandments) for the operation of the NMR Lab are available in the lab at all times

Please visit the following site to download the Power Point presentation.  The entrire presentation occupies about 26 Mb of storage.  The presentation is a little out-of-date.  We no longer use Button NMR.  We use a number of in-house 'au' programs.  We find them to be more flexible and easier to use.
